Our Story: Building a Brighter Future, One Note at a Time

The Vivia Taylor Music Program opened its doors in November 1999 at Calvary Temple Church in Mount Vernon, New York, with just nine students and one simple mission: to make quality music education available to all. Arnold Wittingham became the first student, and the late Rev. Gerald Forbes offered the opening prayer—setting the foundation for what would become a legacy of faith, music, and community.

The true spark came earlier that year during an international tour in Paris, France. After a performance, a stranger approached Ms. Vivia with a message that changed her life: “Be obedient to God.” She knew exactly what that meant—her calling was to dedicate her life to music education. That moment of obedience became the seed of a program that has since touched thousands of lives across New York and Florida.

Growth and New Beginnings

From those first piano and voice lessons offered to a handful of students, the program quickly grew across New York. Ms. Taylor soon developed MusiKey, a Pre-K Music and Movement Program where young children explored musical instruments, rhythmic patterns, and familiar nursery rhymes.

In July 2008, she moved to Florida with her three children—Brandon, Brianca, and Brescia—and joined Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens, where she became part of the Worship Team. There, another remarkable moment unfolded: during a Bible study, Natalie Rodriguez felt God calling her to give away her childhood piano to someone she had never met. In obedience, Natalie gifted her piano of 36 years to Ms. Taylor. Inspired by this act of faith, Ms. Taylor officially incorporated The Vivia Taylor Music Program LLC in January 2009 and enrolled her first Florida student, Mindi Colchico.

Community Impact Throughout Palm Beach County

The program expanded throughout Palm Beach County and the surrounding area with a mission to serve the entire community—not just individual students, but families, schools, churches, recreation centers, and nursing homes. Through piano lessons, voice lessons, theater classes, summer camps, and afterschool programs, this dedicated music teacher brought the gift of music to everyone.

Notable locations included Mirasol School, Palm Beach Community Church Pre-School, Gardens School of Technology Arts, Christ Fellowship, Family Church, Tree Top Academy, Burns Road Recreation Center, and Allegro Nursing Homes—each partnership reflecting her commitment to making music education accessible throughout Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and surrounding areas.

In 2016, Ms. Taylor became Music Educator at Palm Beach Christian Academy, teaching Pre-K through elementary grades while continuing her private piano and voice lessons. She created innovative programs including Flutophone Club, Drama Club, Chorus, and Dr. Seuss Club, producing memorable Spring and Christmas programs for five years.

Students can choose individual lessons tailored to their goals or join group classes for a collaborative learning experience.

What truly sets the program apart is its commitment to community service. Throughout the year, students participate in meaningful outreach projects including:

  • Feed the Hungry food drives and distribution
  • Beach cleanups with Loggerhead Marinelife Center
  • Nursing home performances and holiday gift-making
  • Partnerships with the YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs
  • Two formal recitals each year that build confidence and performance skills

These experiences teach students that music is more than technique—it’s about compassion, respect for others, and using their gifts to serve their community.
